The Canadian Sport School Hockey League made a re-alignment to its division format for the 2022-23 season to promote a stable playing field and parity in competition. According to RINK U17 Prep head coach Jeff Borse, the CSSHL hit a home run with that decision.

“As opposed to the talent pool and level of competition flip-flopping every year between the age groups, what the league did was minimize the discrepancy while adding a little more accuracy to proper team matchups throughout the season,” the veteran coach said. “We now have the U-17 division, and it has been a really competitive league so far.”

With 32 teams divided over three tiers, Borse knows the CSSHL made the right call, as he no longer needs to “sit through the pointless 11-2 games”.

“Three tiers means that right now we are in the second tier, because we had a really good year last year,” he added. “And if we continue to do well this year, we'll move up to the first tier. It’s a bit of a juggling act for the league, but it has really been a great benefit to this re-alignment.”
