The wait is over, and we are thrilled to announce that Ed Mauro has joined our organization as the new head coach of our Female U18 Prep team. With an impressive track record and a deep passion for the sport, Coach Mauro brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to guide our athletes in the next steps of their hockey journey. His unwavering commitment to fostering growth, resilience, and teamwork aligns perfectly with our organization's values, making him an exceptional fit for our team.

Ed Mauro is a highly accomplished and experienced coach, known for his dedication, leadership, and exceptional relationship development skills. With a successful track record of coaching various hockey teams, Ed has demonstrated his strong communication and interpersonal abilities in creating effective and trust-based connections within his teams. His ability to motivate and inspire athletes has consistently led to maximum productivity and goal achievement.
Throughout his career, Ed has held significant coaching positions, including Head Coach for the Barrie Jr Sharks in the U22 Provincial Women's Hockey League since 2018. He also served as the Head Coach for Barrie Minor Hockey in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association from 2013 to 2018, and as the Head Coach for North Central Predators AAA in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association from 2012/2013. Prior to that, Ed gained valuable experience as an Assistant Coach for the Thorold Jr B Blackhawks under the Ontario Hockey Association from 1988 to 1996.
In addition to his coaching roles, Ed has contributed significantly to the development and growth of the sports community. He currently holds the position of Chairperson for the Recreation, Leisure Services, and Sports Administration Program Advisory Committee at Georgian College since July 2016. Through his involvement in this role, Ed continues to make a positive impact by providing guidance and expertise to shape the future of sports administration.
Ed's dedication to professional growth is evident in his extensive education and training. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration and Team Management, recognizing the importance of combining business acumen with his coaching expertise. Ed has actively participated in several prestigious conferences and training programs, including the American Hockey Coaches Association Conference, mPEAK (Mindful Performance Enhancement, Awareness, and Knowledge), NHLCA Coaching Conference, Hockey Canada Branch Coaching Day Clinics, NCAA Coaches with Coaches, and Coaching 2 Connect Conference. This commitment to continuous learning allows Ed to stay updated with the latest coaching methodologies and best practices.
Ed's exceptional coaching achievements speak to his expertise and impact on the teams he has led. He was instrumental in leading the Barrie Colts to win an OMHA Championship in 2017. He was at the helm with the Barrie Jr Sharks establishing them as the first team in franchise history to have a winning record and make the playoffs in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League. Under his guidance, the team achieved significant milestones, and he holds the distinction of being the winningest coach in Jr Sharks history. Furthermore, Ed's dedication to player development is evident in the fact that 94% of his graduating players achieved scholarships to further their athletic and academic careers. His own talents were recognized when he was drafted by the Soo Greyhounds (OHL).
